Requesting Shield and Scroll Workers over the summer
Hello Lowell Faculty and Staff,
I would like to remind you and somewhat improve upon the instructions for requesting shield and scroll help in the summer, which should be done through news items on School Loop. Note that this is only for summer requests up to and including the first week of school. After that, we'll do it the old-fashioned way on the bulletin board.
First, after choosing "my portal", select "Add News" from the News Window on the right side.
Next, choose "grades 11 and 12" for your audience.
Check the box marked "enable discussion". This is very important, because students will "sign up" for your work by "commenting" on your item.
Make sure you make the headline "Shield and Scroll help request" to get noticed by Shield and Scroll. They will be watching, but are looking for the words "shield and scroll".
Type in the text window: (please include ALL of the following):
* Teacher/Administrator and Department
* Job Date and LOCATION
* Job Start and End Times
* Number of Workers Needed
* Shifts (if necessary)
* Job description (type of work that the Shield and Scroll members will be doing)
* Indicate if you want them to wear formal attire/beanie/nametag.
Then send it out and instantly your work request will be accessible for shield and scroll workers to sign up and you can monitor news item for signups. Comments will be dated and time-stamped, so you will always be able to tell who signed up and in what order. Previously I stated that you needed to make your website part of the audience, but that is actually not necessary. As far as I can tell, any teacher/staff member always sees their own news item regardless of the audience choice.
Thank you and I hope you all have a wonderful summer!
