Counseling Calendar

August

Prior to the 1st day of school: UC application is open (August 1st)

Freshman Orientation

Completing transfer students schedules and transcript review

First week:

  • Correcting student schedules for students with: a missing/wrong core academic class, enrolled in two of the same classes, incomplete schedule

Second/third week:

  • Add Period: During the first TWO weeks of the semester. LAST day to ADD--2nd Friday of the semester.

  • Drop Period: During the first THREE weeks of the semester. LAST day to DROP--3rd Friday of the semester.

  • Visit 9th Grade Registry for introduction/welcome

September

  • School Tours begin  - Wednesdays thru December

    • Contact the Transcript Registrar for details at (415) 759-2749 .

  • Senior meetings for those applying early action/decision

  • Back to School Night

  • National Merit Scholarship Notification – based on 11th grade PSAT scores

October

  • California State University application opens

  • Senior Meetings continue

  • College Information Night

  • PSAT/NMSQT – 2nd Wednesday in October

  • College Fair for seniors

November

  • University of California application opens

  • 8th Grade Night (for interested 8th graders and their parents)

  • Deadline:Seniors must add Counselor to Common Application/Private schools before Thanksgiving break! 

  • Counselors focus on completing Letters of Recommendation for Seniors

  • Course selection worksheet for spring semester distributed in Registry. After worksheets are collected, Counselors will review course selections and make final corrections.

  • Cal Grant Applications given out in senior Reg

  • November 30th: CSU/UC Applications Due

December

  • Counselors continue completing Letters of Recommendation for Seniors

  • Financial Aid Night

  • Arena for spring semester

Last week of the semester:

  • Counselors will not be available due to data entry/scheduling for spring semester OR for schedule corrections/changes.  Students can see their Counselor at the start of Spring Semester

January

First week:

  • FAFSA application opens – January 1st

  • See individual Counselor for details

  • California High School Exit Exam (9-10 grades)

  • Junior Class College Workshops

  • Deadline: Seniors verify name for diploma in Reg

March

  • FAFSA Application/Cal Grant deadline March 2nd

  • Sophomore/junior Meetings continue

  • Incoming Freshman are notified by SFUSD of their application status

  • FRISCO Day – Senior fieldtrip to prepare for college life

  • Personal Statement Workshops in the VICCI

  • NACAC College Fair: 9th to 11th grade students

  • Incoming freshman submit course selection sheets

  • California Star Test: 9th to 11th grade

May

  • Award Ceremony for seniors

  • AP Testing

  • Arena for fall semester

  • Graduation Ceremony
